A friend posted a very impressive quote on Facebook this week that caught my attention. Although it's often misattributed to a statement by Abraham Lincoln, it was actually a quote by a Presbyterian minister who wrote a pamphlet about Lincoln. Anyway, I loved the quote and wanted to put it out there for all to consider, especially taking into account Sunday's vote and today's signing by Obama of the healthcare "reform" bill. Just thinking outloud!
"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."
- Abraham Lincoln
also attributed to Reverend William John Henry Boetcker
