August, September, October ... already?

HAPPY 10 - 10 - 10 !!!!!!!!!!!!
My goodness! The end of Summer and the first part of Fall has just blown by the Jones Household! The kids have already endured their first report cards, putting away summer clothes and pulling out bins of "too small" winter clothes, and they've even had a chore of raking leaves! I adore this time of year, but it seems to be moving way too quickly for my liking! Last week the temps were in the 30's ... this weekend we're in the upper 80's!!! What's the deal with that?

All of that aside, it's not an excuse for not keeping up with my blog. My explanation is that I've just been relaxing and avoiding all things computer-related.

I've absolutely enjoyed the occasional moments when I realize the laundry is done, the sink is empty, the dog is fed and all of the kids are off to school! I haven't experienced that since I first became a mom 13 years ago. For 13 years I've been in a constant "mom of many" mode. I've never gone without a child in diapers or pull-ups since 1997. I've always had kids on bottles or still using sippy cups. I've never gone without having to cut a child's food (or puree it or pump it into a feeding tube.) Now? I am down to only ONE CHILD in pull-ups! No more sippy cups and bottles! No more need to cut the hot dogs into "safe" shapes to avoid choking hazards! I can send my kids out to the backyard with a simple warning of "be nice to your brothers and sisters, stay in our yard and worms are not meant to be torn in two because worms have feelings too." My kids can dress themselves, brush their own teeth, put their own dirty dishes in the sink and dirty clothes in the hamper.

I don't know if I should rejoice at this milestone, or weep because they don't need me as much as they used to. That whole "we give our kids wings to fly" thing resonates in my mind, yet it doesn't make it feel any better. Years ago I would have fixed my need to make home-made baby food and buy diapers with a simple call to the Division of Family Services letting them know that I had an extra bed and time on my hands. Well, I don't have that urge anymore, but I do need a good baby fix!

Fortunately for me my sister is due is December! I can't wait to cuddle up to my nephew and just let him snooze on my chest while I sniff his sweet head and put auntie kisses on his precious little fingers! While I wait for December, our dear family friend who lives just around the corner has asked me to babysit her 2 month old while she attends to an appointment! YES!!!!!! Is it Tuesday yet? I'm giddy with excitement!

OK, no more babbling. Most of you want news ... and some pictures that were promised to you months ago. Let's see ....

Medical Stuff ~

Kids all had physicals ... they're doing great!
My audiologically challenged children had their exams ... they're doing great!

My medical stuff is pretty boring. The only significant bit of information is that my CA-125 continues to skyrocket (which is not good.) I was in the low teens a few months ago. I am now up in the 100's. Not good ... but there's not much I can do about that at this time. I am continuing with my Doxil chemotherapy regimen and just continue to hope and pray that God continues to bless me as He has always done.

Fun Stuff ~

We've been having, well, fun. The kids absolutely love visiting Grandpa's cabin and acreage (see pics below.) We've attended a few fall festivals in mid-Illinois. Isaac's big news is that he was elected to the Student Council as their Treasurer at his grade school. He participated in the high school Homecoming Parade yesterday (again, pics below.) Brandon adores his friends in preschool and is looking forward to a trip to Theis Pumpkin Farm later this week. Nita has adjusted rather well to middle school, as has Nathan. I forgot just how "twitterpated" teenage girls can be when it comes to teenage boys. Fortunately, Nita is still willing to share her stories about who has a crush on who with me. Nathan's teachers get a kick out of his sense of humor. He's maturing so quickly! I still can't contain my giggles when his voice cracks. Alyssa continues to run her poor teacher ragged, but that's Allie! It's so fun to see my kids grow up!

I'll post a few pictures below. For those of you on Facebook you can see more on my FB page.

I hope you all are having a fantastic Fall!

Until Tomorrow,
Kathy
