Some of you have mentioned that I've been MIA for a few days, so I decided to make some time to sit down for a moment to say "Hello!" I've sent Nita to bed after allowing her to stay up for her first political "town hall" experience. The former president, Bill Clinton and Hillary were here in Florissant at my alma mater, McCluer North H.S., for a post Nevada/S.C. campaign stop. I am a staunch conservative (falling somewhere in the Libertarian/Republican/Constitutionalist belief system) but I want my daughter to see how her government works and that includes not ignoring the parts I don't agree with. Nita has a firm grasp on the election process and is beginning to understand the differences between the parties. She knows that Mrs. Clinton is running on the Dem ticket and that her belief system is quite different from our family's. What tickled me was how perceptive Nita was this evening ... she said, "Mom, I think Mrs. Clinton is smart. It would be neat to have a president who was a lady, but I don't want her husband as the First Man. The kids at school told me he actually lied to his family about dating another girl. I don't want that to be how other countries think about us." I was also proud of her understanding of what Mrs. Clinton was saying to the crowd. Nita said, "She's good at persuading people. She makes you believe her. Kind of like when I tell a lie and I hope you believe me, but you never do. And she always looks so bored, like she's getting ready to yawn." Anyway, I'm really looking forward to experiencing this upcoming election year through the eyes of my young, but wise daughter. Thank God for kids!
Until tomorrow (or the next day ........)
Kathy
