Project 2010

In a recent blog I mentioned one of my all-time favorite chefs/moms/do-all's of all time. Online she is known as "The Pioneer Woman." I am particularly envious of her ability to document her family's "goings-on" as well as special meals that they enjoy.

When my mother passed away in 2006, we lost not only Mom, but also one of the best things she ever did, her cooking! Kristie, Dad and I have often commented about how one of her dishes sounded particularly good and how we wished we had more of her recipes. Whenever I cook Isaac asks "is this how Grandma made this for you when YOU were a kid?" Well, Mom did leave behind some recipes in an old data file on our Apple IIGS (or as Uncle Melvie used to call it "The Applllllllle Twooooooooooooo Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Sssssssss.) Anyway, our copies of those few recipes have become stained and unreadable in their old age. This year I will be redocumenting Mom's recipes with a more modern program that can be accessed, emailed, printed and faxed ... shared.

This afternoon I decided to journal this experiment of mine here at the blog. My goal is to create a new menu item to put in our Jones Family Cookbook every day. We will do Appetizers. Soups/Salads, Main Dishes, etc. I think that once a week we'll have a "kids meal" that the kids can put together. I hope that once my youngest is out on his own, he'll at least know how to boil an egg, pour himself a glass of juice and maybe even flip a burger!

Please stick with me as I get this all figured out. I'd like to share our "food of the day" along with a picture of the menu item everyday. I'd love ideas or "favorites" that are family friendly, not just on the kids' taste buds, but also on a tight budget. In the end I'll have our cookbook 2010 available for all of ya'll to download (or I can simply send it on a disc). Let's see if I can do this!

Tonight I'm making one of my favorite weird dishes that mom used to make (using her recipe, of course) that she simply titled "Tuna Souffle." I'll share it with you tomorrow!

MMMMMM, my house smells so good right now!

Is that the puter that at least used to be in the room to the left at the bottom of the stairs? If so, I seem to recall her saying she couldn't get rid of it because she had so much of her stuff on it. She might have even mentioned the recipes...

Love ya,
A Jeane
