Cancer so sucks ... but here we go!

Many of you have asked me to update you on my chemotherapy and radiation plans. Today I spent the day with my two oncologists. They have created my treatment schedule for the next 6-8 weeks. I will be receiving external radiation 5 days a week and internal radiation 1 day a week at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. I will also be receiving chemotherapy (cisplatin) one day a week at my gyne-onc office which is just up the road from MoBap. I am scheduled for my body casting, tattoo-ing and mapping along with a CT scan next week. I will begin radiation on May 12th. On May 13th I will have a minor surgical procedure performed early in the morning to place a port catheter just below my collar bone so I can receive chemotherapy via a port as opposed to my really crappy veins. After the surgery I will report for radiation in the Cancer Center at MoBap and then drive up to my gyne-onc office for my first (of six) round of chemotherapy. If my body responds as I am praying it will, my treatments should be over by the middle of July.

Both of my oncologists are incredible doctors and both have given me so much more hope that I can beat this. Both are perplexed at how somebody as young as I am (feels good to be called young!) has endometrial cancer in this stage. All that matters to me is that they help me beat the livin' crap out of it. ;-)

Many of you have asked how you can help during this period. Prayers ... that's what I need the most. I will also be creating a care calendar in the next few days. Once it is uploaded I will email those of you who have expressed an interest in helping out.

The good news from today?????? Nathan competed in the Special Olympics Track and Field event this morning! He got First Place in the 50 meter dash!!!! He also rocked in shotput and the long jump, placing 4th in both events! He's growing up way too fast, but it sure is fun watching him live his life so happily! Consider supporting Special Olympics when you are making a donation to a charitable cause.

Until Tomorrow,
Kathy
