Author, Margaret Bonnano, once said, "Being rich is having money; being wealthy is having time." Yesterday was a day that put this into perspective for me. Let me explain ...
As most of you know, my engagement ended in October 2006. Little did I know the financial debacle I would have entered into would I have married my beau as planned in December of that very same year. Yesterday, I got the answers to questions that have been plaguing me since that time. Because our family was listed as a creditor for my former fiance', Dad and I attended his bankruptcy hearing in downtown St. Louis yesterday afternoon. I went to the hearing with the intention of "sticking it to the jerk" who broke my heart ... I left feeling sorry for him, and for the others who also were having their bankruptcy cases heard. How unfortunate it is to see good people, some shameful for the position they were in, and others almost with an air of arrogance, begging the court to grant their bankruptcy. I left the courthouse having made peace with my loss and sending my ex-fiance' off with a simple "May God Bless You." Had we married, my backside would have been planted right there next to him ... in the same financial mess. Thank you Lord for sparing my family from this situation.
As this door in my life was closing, God was working on another situation for me. Yesterday afternoon I was told that my insurance company had made a ruling on my medical review. They determined that my cancer was in fact not a pre-existing condition! (Well, DUH!) I can now move forward with my treatments without the fear of living in debt from my medical expenses for the rest of my life.
Money ... it's the "root of all evil" yet we must have it to live. Yesterday taught me that money, or the lack thereof, can define where we are in our life. The one thing money can't do is buy us time ... there is only one ... The One ... who can truly make us, as Ms. Bonnano put it, "wealthy." I pray daily that He grants me the privilege of being a very wealthy woman.
Until Tomorrow,
Kathy
