Driving through the storm ...

My children never cease to amaze me. Often it's gestures of unexpected kindness, other times it's something not so charming like Brandon's recent discovery that if one blows hard enough on one's arm, a loud farting sound can be created.

This morning my children brought breakfast in bed to me. I had a lovely bowl of shredded wheat, some "almost toast" with apricot jam and a tall glass of iced tea "because we're not allowed to use the microwave to make it hot." They were all so proud of themselves ... so was I. What really touched me was their decision that every Sunday should be Mother's Day and moms should "always get breakfast in bed." I just love being a mom!

A special "Happy Mother's Day" goes out to all of my good friends and family ... but especially to my baby sister as she spends her first Mom's Day with her new son.

On another note ... yesterday the kids and I were invited to spend the day with some very good friends of ours, the Hoffman Family. We had a lovely lunch and the kids played together all afternoon. Afterwards we attended church with Don, Shannon, Alex and Zack. The church is beautiful ... sitting out in the middle of a cornfield in the Chesterfield Valley. The kids' ministry was wonderful and my children are begging to return each week. The adult service was filled with wonderful music and a sermon that had me wanting more as the pastor closed out the service. I look forward to returning soon, gas prices and health permitting. Thank you Shannon and Don for giving my family a day of "normalcy" in the middle of this storm we've been going through lately.

On the way home from the service we drove through horrible thunderstorms. The children were frightened that we'd crash or be hit by lightening. Isaac, my ever-thinking faithful child said to the others, "Guys, don't worry. If we get hit by lightening and die we'll all be together. Think how happy we are today. We'd go to heaven in a good mood." An hour later we were home safely. As a mom I try so hard to make sure my children are safe and happy. How wonderful to know that although their faith in my driving might waiver, their faith in God and Eternal Life does not. Yes, my kids amaze me.

Happy Mother's Day to all.

Until Tomorrow,
Kathy
