Ruffled Feathers and New Perspectives

My last blog seemed to stir up some emotions, and I apologize to those who were offended. However, my blog ... my thoughts. When I blog I type as if I were speaking to a friend sitting next to me. Oftentimes I word things incorrectly or I say things that some don't consider "PC" (politically correct.) Well, I'm not a very "PC" kinda gal. I say it like I want to say it. I am very careful about "people first" language though. I"ll save that for another blog!

Well, my blog titled "Welcome to Holland", was met with a variety of responses. Thank you for posting your replies and emailing me with your feelings and thoughts. To those who asked why it was Allie that I chose to "complain about" ... well, she is my most challenging child. Do I love her less for it? CERTAINLY NOT! And quite honestly, it is not her down syndrome that is her disability. Allie's disability comes from her prenatal exposure to illegal drugs and alcohol. The down syndrome is nothing! So, please don't think that I want to wish the DS away.

Thank you to those of you who allowed me to feel sad. Also, a big thank you to my Best Aunt Jeane (you can see her comment on the "Welcome to Holland" post) for reminding me that all moms feel this way at certain times in their kids' lives ... no matter if they have a disability or not. It's a "Mom-Thang". She also lovingly reminded me that if Allie wasn't who she was, then I wouldn't have been her mom. God saw fit to put the two of us together at a time in our lives when I needed her just as much as she needed me.

I really do enjoy this whole "blog" thing. I've met some incredible families, reconnected with old friends, and stayed in touch with family by simply spewing verbiage at an empty screen a few times a week. Writing is often cathartic for me. When somebody takes time to read what I write, I'm happy. When you take the time to leave a comment or email me, I appreciate it. We don't always have to agree ... life would be boring if we did! I hope you take something positive or thought-provoking each time you stop by.

Until Tomorrow,
Kathy ... Just a Mom

Grrrrr..the whole PC thing. It gets exhausting, in my opinion. Don't ever think you have to be careful on my account! :o)
